Battle Mechanics
Battle formulas, generation-specific abilities and movepools, weather/terrain, and server deviations
Pokefind’s PvP and most PvE battles follow Gen 8 battle mechanics, with no Mega Evolution (server-wide).
Generation rules at a glance
| Pokemon class | Movepool / TMs | Abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Standard species | Gen 6 ORAS movepool | Gen 7 abilities |
| Anniversary species (Kyoto, Jataro, Haikou, Shiloh, Zeinova, etc.) | Gen 6 base + Gen 8 additions | Gen 7 base + Gen 8 additions |
This means a normal-form Pokemon plays close to ORAS-era mechanics with the Gen 7 ability list bolted on. Anniversary forms get the broader Gen 8 movepool + ability access on top of that as a deliberate power tier above standard play.
Battle mechanics topics covered in this section
- Damage formula — stat calc, modifier order, critical hits
- Type chart — full chart, includes Fairy
- Status conditions — sleep/burn/freeze/paralysis/poison/badly-poisoned durations and side-effects
- Weather + Terrain — turn counts, stacking with abilities (Drought + Heat Rock, etc.)
- Doubles-specific mechanics — Wide Guard / Quick Guard / Imprison interactions
- Server-specific deviations from Gen 8 mainline — listed explicitly so players coming from the official games don’t get caught out
Mega Evolution is not supported on the server. Anything in this section assumes no-Mega play.
Movepool reference (Gen 6 ORAS)
Pokefind species lookups use Gen 6 ORAS movesets as the baseline — particularly relevant for tutor moves that no longer exist in later gens. The Pokedex entries already include each species’ Gen 6 ORAS-era level-up moves, TMs/HMs, Move Tutor moves, and Egg Moves; check a species page for its specific movepool.
Authoritative source: Bulbapedia per-generation learnset subpages (
/Generation_VI_learnsetetc.) are static HTML and the canonical reference when the wiki and the in-game data disagree.
Each species’ Pokedex page lists:
- Level-up Moves — ORAS-era level-up table
- TMs & HMs — every TM/HM the species can learn in ORAS
- Move Tutor — ORAS tutor moves (this is the list that diverges most from later gens)
- Egg Moves — ORAS egg-move pool
For anniversary forms, the Pokedex tab for that form lists its own movepool, which includes Gen 8 additions on top of the Gen 6 base.
